the color of the day lilies
Don planted along the sidewalk
leading up to the back door of the church
in full-on bloom since I returned
shouting to all who pass by
welcome, welcome, welcome
the color of rest
in my bedroom
filled with the lighter
shades of its warmth
and set aglow by the
pine-board floors
made golden by the years
of feet scooting across them
the sun-reflecting
fields of wheat
hiding within
school buses of finches
the color of nourishment
and life
warmth
and embrace
yellow is
[when red is not]
my favorite color
