Looking at the Royal Scots Memorial
and wondering –
truly wondering
if only for a moment or two
what it must be like
to live in an Empire
the moment evaporates
into self-awareness
and I say to myself
aloud “Oh. That’s right.
I am an American.
I know exactly
what it’s like
to live in an Empire.”
I hate that part.
